Setting up the studio

July was a hectic month.  In addition to all the other good things that happened, I also moved and now have a fantastic studio space for all my designing, crafting, and creating.  I took this photo before hauling in all the boxes and bags of fibers, dyes, books and materials.  Today, I use this photo as a reference as I add to my "wish list" of things I want/need for the space.  First on the list was a workstation of some sort.  It needed to be a multi-purpose table: one that could be used for design work, organizing, crafting, dyeing, and maybe even teaching a class.

My housemate was walking the dog a few days ago and he saw this "old table" sitting on the sidewalk in front of a house that was clearly being remodeled.  He told me about it once he got home and I went to check it out.  Behold!  A glorious vintage drafting table probably from the 1920s that was the perfect size, and also is a perfect problem solver for the not-level floor!  I talked with the owner of the house and he said he was remodeling and didn't have a place for it anymore and if I want it, I could have it!  Minutes later we were carrying this table down the street and I was SO happy that the first piece of furniture had been procured.  (Doesn't "procured" sound better than "garbage picked"?)  There are many "next steps" that need to be taken.  One friend is sending some small speakers to add sound to the studio... and I have spent countless hours looking around, measuring, doing my best to figure out what the next steps should be.  Most notably, a few hours of "wire management" needs to take place.  I have started a list of additional items I need.  Of course, "bookcase" is on that list but, you know me... I can't just have a bookcase.  It needs to be the right bookcase.  I am entertaining the idea of glass-front cabinets of some sort... the right things will come when it's time.  For now, I have LOTS of cardboard boxes keeping everything I hold dear safe and tidy.
