"You Want Me To Do What to My Knitting?!" An Introduction to Steeks

Homework

Snip snip snip! Terrified about cutting up your knitting? You won't be after taking this class! Get your homework done and be ready to feel empowered!

Description
Cutting your knitting may seem the stuff of nightmares, but when you're in a controlled environment and following a few simple steps, it's a tool that makes stranded knitting a dream. In this workshop you'll face your fears while learning the skills required to steek knitted fabric, and you'll explore the necessary steps to create a beautifully finished edge.

Supplies

Please bring the remaining partial balls of worsted weight, solid color, non-superwash wool (such as Schoppel Reggae Melange) used for your swatches, circular knitting needles used for your homework swatches plus a second set one size smaller, and the usual knitting bag filled with treasures. Be sure all yarns are wound and ready to use.

Materials Fee: $15
Covers the cost of supplementary materials provided in class, including scissors, crochet hook, thread, sewing needle, felting needle, and felting mat.

Homework
Before class, please knit and block two homework swatches: one colorwork tube worked in the round and one flat, single-color swatch. These samples will be used during the workshop for practicing reinforcement, cutting, and finishing techniques
. Please do not reinforce or cut any steek columns.
