Skyscraper Hat
Interweave | Urban Knit Collection: 18 City-inspired Knitting Patterns for the Modern Wardrobe, 2016

One of my most vivid childhood memories is from when my dad brought me and my sisters to the roof of a skyscraper he was building in Louisville,Kentucky. Preparing us for the photo, he had me stand on the rooftop ledge and backed up with the camera to get us all in the frame. As he snapped that photo with the entire world behind us, I felt as though I was going to plummet to my demise there and then—but I didn’t!

Worked in the round, this hat features twisted traveling stitches and carefully concealed decreases that mirror and honor the thoughtful engineering that goes into skyscraper construction. Using the German twisted cast-on at the beginning of the hat allows for a touch more stretch at the brim.
