Good Deeds, Volume 2 - Call for Digital Submissions
About 7 years ago, I collaborated with many of my fiber friends to create a collection of knit and crochet patterns. Good Deeds: Volume One included entrelac, lace, stranded knitting and even crochet, and 100% of the proceeds from its sale were donated to Bay Area Cancer Connections; a nonprofit based in Palo Alto, CA that provides education and support for people dealing with breast cancer. In addition to funds raised, I organized and lead a workshop that taught some of their members how to knit using materials donated by people in the fiber arts industry.
We worked as a group to have an impact on the lives of others. We started a discussion about breast cancer, and what we can do as individuals to help others.
Well, it's 2020, and it's time for Volume 2.
On August 18th, my friend Nathania was diagnosed with breast cancer. Nathania has been a part of my personal fiber world for over a decade, and continues to be a creative, supportive, and encouraging force.
Good Deeds: Volume 2 is dedicated to Nathania, and I hope you'll contribute to the project. The final work will be presented as an e-book.
Are you a fiber artist? poet? painter? chef? story teller? Do you draw? Sew? Quilt? Crochet? Weave? Knit? Create collages? Write music? Let's create an inspiring, creative, uplifting, digital collection that can be offered for sale. Turning the digital pages of Volume 2 will be a bit different, but knowing how much talent exists in each of you, I am confident this project will be a beautiful reminder of the power each of us holds, and the amazing beauty that lies within the simple act of helping others.
All the proceeds from the sale of this e-book will be donated to Nathania, and she will be able to use those funds however she sees fit.
How can you contribute: Note - everything included in the collection is virtual/digital. There is no need to physically mail anything.
Submit a photograph, drawing, knit or crochet pattern... write a story, record a video... anything that is virtual that can be included in a .pdf file can be contributed. Original or old family recipes would be fantastic contributions. This is not a breast cancer thing. It's a creative opportunity. Your work can feature any subject, and our collaboration will evolve into a cacophony of inspiring work.
In the current climate, I'm less able to arrange models, photography, etc. but we can still get together (virtually) as a group, and create an inspiring product to help raise funds for an amazing soul.
There are three rules:
1. Be Original - All the work you submit must be your own, and you must have the authority to share it. It doesn't have to be the first time a thing has been seen -- it can be a recipe from a book you've published, or maybe a knitting pattern you own the rights to. It might be a painting long ago sold but you still love it and feel it conveys the right sentiment for this project. 2. Be Kind - So much of what is happening in our world feels out of control. Let's treat each other with compassion, empathy, and understanding. 3. No Pink - While pink (and pink ribbons) are helpful for some, we want to honor Nathania's request and avoid the symbol.
Once it is released, you can help us raise money by sharing the opportunity to purchase the collection with your friends and family. Remember, whatever you contribute remains part of the collection through the end of the year. After that, the fundraiser/sales will end and I will no longer sell/share the collection.

Email: [email protected] Subject: Good Deeds Volume 2 Deadline for Submissions: 9/8/20
In the email, let me know what you'd like to contribute. You can send links to documents, images, or .pdf files that make up your contribution. If you are unsure of what to share, offer multiple items, and I'll do my best to choose.
I will collect all the different submissions and assemble them into our collaboration. There will be a place in the file/document for a list of contributors with their stories and any links they want to share. Perhaps you have a website that showcases your work, or an online shop or gallery -
Once everything is assembled, I will release Good Deeds Volume Two. The collection will be available for purchase through 12/31/2020, and then, it will be retired. You will be kept informed of what's happening all along the way.
At the end of the project, I will publish the results of our effort and send the money we raised to Nathania.
Questions? reach out to me via email. I'll do everything I can to make this successful.
