Project Open Hand serves over 2,500 meals every day to the elderly, home-bound, and people facing life-threatening illnesses who need nutritious food to support their medical treatment. More than nutrition, its delivery services brings food to the door of those who are unable to leave their home. Since 1985, Project Open Hand has been providing "Meals with Love" to residents of San Francisco and Alameda counties, and has served for a model for over 100 organizations worldwide.
75 Squares is an opportunity for fiber artists to make and donate a scarf, shawl, or cowl that will be given to a donor in exchange for their contribution to the fundraiser. The proceeds from 75 Squares will benefit Project Open Hand and its clients by covering the cost of meals for those in need.
Those who are lucky enough to purchase one of these pieces will feel great every time they wrap up; knowing they've made a contribution to a project that directly impacts literally thousands of people facing hunger, illness, and the challenges of aging.

Call for Submissions Items must be received by: Friday, July 31, 2015 Event Launch: Saturday, September 26, 2015 Details | A fundraiser for Project Open Hand, 75 Squares is an online event showcasing handmade scarves, cowls, and wraps donated by generous fiber artists and companies. Each item will be posted on a dedicated page at www.kylewilliam.com where people can view and select which item they want by purchasing the item. In addition to the item, a brief bio and link to the artist's or company's website or other page will be provided. The net proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to Project Open Hand. Each piece will get a special "75 Squares" label which acts as a reminder that the donation raised enough money to serve 75 meals to the elderly, sick, and home-bound. Requirements | Scarves, shawls, or cowls could be knit, crocheted, woven, quilted... and should be made beautifully and thoughtfully. Choose something special to donate to this project; a work with a value of $150.00, and watch the avalanche of good that comes from your contribution! Fill out the submission form, and mail in your work as soon as possible. You'll be donating one piece (a physical item), not a pattern. For those of us who are designers, it's OK for that item to be a sample from a previous publication (as long as you have the ownership of the piece you're donating.) One of a kind items are also welcome; any piece you believe will help to earn that donation amount of $150.00 and serve those 75 square meals. Want to donate more than one piece? That's wonderful! Please fill out a separate submission form for each item. Photography | If you already have great photos of this item (perhaps it was featured in a magazine or it's a sample from a pattern you have published), and if you have permission to use/share those images, attach them to the submission form. Otherwise, finished samples will be photographed for the fundraiser and these images will be made available to the contributing artist for use on their website, blog, etc. Proceeds | All money, after fees (Square, shipping, etc), will be donated to Project Open Hand. If 50 pieces are donated and are sold for $155.00 each, then that's $7,500.00 raised (after fees are deducted) and 3,750 meals served! Questions? Send an email HERE. To donate an item, please click on the button below. Also, feel free to share this project call with your fiber friends. |
