Interiors

This is a selection of some of the custom paintwork and interior design/decoration that I have done over the years.  Most of my experience came from working in a furniture showroom in Tennessee and Kentucky, but many images following come from some of the residential clients I had.  Dates and locations are approximated in this section.

Jeffersonville, IN - 2007

Faux finish of clouds on all walls of guest bathroom, January, 2007.  The task was to create a new look on a budget of under $200.  New paint, cabinet hardware, bath accessories (including toilet paper holder and hand towel holder, electrical plug and switch covers, etc.)

Bowling Green, KY - 1999

I took a few hundred forks and had the ends drilled so that they would accept a nail... and nailed them just under the crown molding of a dining room vignette.  The idea came from a joke I made with my regional manager... I had told him that he'd stick forks on the wall and call it art.  Once said, I couldn't get the idea out of my mind!  I tried it out and it turned out to be a fun effect - the lighting in the showroom cast fun shadows on the wall and it caused discussion within the store.

Chatsworth, CA - 2006

The theme was Winnie the Pooh.  We found adorable wallpaper border, and decided to line one wall with beadboard.  I selected colors, assisted in installing the trim and board on one wall, then custom painted the room.  Clouds above the baby's head, sage green for the trim, and pink everywhere else!  We selected timeless white furniture that will grow with her; converting all the way up through stages to a twin bed when she needs it.

Franklin, TN - 1995

Custom glazed library walls - believe it or not, this room has a base coat of "University of Tennessee ORANGE" under the glazing.  all 4 walls are finished in this manner, with one wall being full of built in bookcases and a fireplace, a window wall, and two walls with doors similar to the one pictured.

Pacific Grove, CA - 2001

This wood front door was faded and the original finish had failed in the ocean environment.  I covered the door in gold leaf then burned it using a series of acid washes.  The finished door showed a mottled effect that worked great on this simple coastal home.

Indian Hills, TN - 1996

I had a client who wanted some pizzaz added to her dining room.  The room was just to the right of her entryway, and needed a little "something" - we decided to use a strong pumpkin orange and create diamonds on the walls, utilizing the existing peachy/cream color of the existing paint for a base color.  The result was impactful to say the least.

Murfreesboro, TN -1996

Parquet Floor custom painted in a furniture showroom - the floor was badly marred and scratched.  We decided the best route to go would be to paint it, so, we filled all the deep gouges, primed and painted... voila! a "new" floor!

Nashville, TN - 2000

Accent wall painted and glazed in a small one bedroom condominium in Nashville, TN - the entire space was designed with a limited budget.  This wall created a "stir" in the building and actually caused the owner to give tours of his home for other residents to see the finish work that had been done.

Murfreesboro, TN - 1997

8' high ceilings with walls covered in paneling.  What's a person to do?  Paint the paneling a neutral color, and drape gauze or cheesecloth along the wall, pinning it just so... the final effect?  warm, cozy and not at all like the paneling nightmare that began the whole effort!

Bowling Green, KY - 1997

One of my favorite tricks - I took ribbon and cut it to lengths just longer than the wall from floor to ceiling (or in this case, the bottom of the border) and after marking off the location of each color, pinned each piece in place using pearl head pins that were cut down to shorter lengths (like push pins) - the effect?  beautiful stripes - no painting lines or worrying about staying straight... and when it's time for a change, just yank 'em down!

Bowling Green, KY - 1997

Mural of rock wall painted for a furniture store in Kentucky.  Unfortunately, this is the only photo that exists of this painting.

Franklin, TN - 1999

Custom bedding and wall glazing for a client's guest room - we also did a custom window treatment using the same cut velvet fabric.

Bowling Green, KY - 1997

"Stained Glass Tree" painting using the colors of surrounding rooms in a furniture showroom.  I thought that this type of furniture could handle a "mission inspired" tree - Using masking tape, I created a free form tree, then painted in each section, trying to not paint the same color next to itself.
